Tutorial: Basic Brick Stitch with Decreasing

Needed Materials:

Delica beads – 11o

Fireline thread 6lb

Needle #12

Step 1:

Pick up 2 delica beads.

Pass your needle up through the first bead added.

Pass your needle down through the second bead.

Pick up 1 delica bead and pass your needle down through the previous bead.

Pass back up the bead just added.

Repeat step 1 until you have a total of 5 delica beads.

Step 2:

Now we will be creating basic brick stitch. With your thread passing up through the delica bead on the end, pick up 2 delica beads and pass your needle through the first loop of thread.

Now pass your needle up through the first bead added.

Step 3:

Pick up 1 delica bead and pass your needle through the next thread loop.

Pass back up the bead you just added.

Repeat step 3 until you have passed through every thread loop.

This is what it should look like.

Repeat step 2 to begin another row of basic brick stitch.

Repeat step 3 until you have passed through all remaining thread loops.

This is what it should look like.

Step 4:

Now we begin decreasing our brick stitch. Pick up 2 delica beads, and this time, pass your needle through the second thread loop rather than the first.

Pass back up the first bead added.

Pass down the second bead added.

And pass up the first bead added once more.

The rest of your row is simply repeating step 3 until you have passed through the remaining thread loops.

This is what it should look like.

Repeat step 4 to begin another decreased brick stitch row.

Repeat step 3 for the remainder of your row.

This is what it should look like.

Repeat step 4 to add an additional decreased row of brick stitch.

This is what it should look like.

To add your final bead, pick up 1 delica and pass your needle down through the beads shown to secure it.

And you are finished!
